Rock of Ages Rolls Through the Ages in Latest Video

A new teaser video has been released for Ace Team’s upcoming rolling-rock tower defense hybrid, Rock of Ages. The video shows off the games unique play and beautiful style. But why take my word for it when you can check it out for yourself?

Still can’t tell what the game’s about? Then maybe this description from Atlus will answer your questions:

Two castles stand opposed, bridged by an uneven, narrow pathway. One is yours, and you’re quite fond of it. See how the parapets catch the sunlight ever so stylishly? The other is your enemy’s; they’re a jerk, and their crappy crenellations are driving down your property values. Also, their castle sucks, justification enough to try crush it using an enormous rolling stone. Unfortunately, they’ll have a chance to plan and build up some security, doing everything they can to derail your razing rock. Get through their defenses and you’re one step closer to crushing their unsightly tower (see also: their hopes and dreams). But don’t take your turn for granite. Once your turn is over, your opponent’s begins…

The game should be available this summer, but details regarding platform and distribution have yet to be revealed.

LA Noire Official Trailer Number 3

At this point, I think we all fully expect a new LA Noire video or batch of screens every day from now until the game’s release. Today, Rockstar released an ‘Official trailer #3’ (only 3? Really?)

Don’t take my sarcasim as anything other than, well, sarcasim. I really am excited about this game. Check out the trailer on the Rockstar blog here.

Alice: Madness Returns Gameplay Video

We now can travel through the looking glass to take a peek at Alice’s return to Wonderland. Kill stuff. Jump. Kill other stuff. Oh, but seriously, it looks very American McGee’y, and that’s a good thing. Check it:

Off-screen video has been posted showing the Unreal 3 engine in action, and it looks pretty amazing. Check it out:

Edit: The video has now been released, so I’m replacing the off-screen video in this post with the HD digital video. Enjoy.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel Trailer; Silly Hats, Explosive Tires

A new trailer is available for the upcoming Call of Juarez: The Cartel. The vehicle has some pretty cool action and old-west’y themes, and also features plenty of silly hats and even an exploding tire!

Also, we learn that this game will revolve around three central characters, described in the video as “bad cops” who are out to take on the cartel. The game will also feature three-player co-op. Click ‘continue reading’ to check out the video. (source: Blue’s News) Continue reading

From the Vice Desk: LA Noire ‘The Naked City’ Trailer

‘The Naked City’ is the Game Stop Pre-order bonus mission, which comes off the ‘vice’ desk in Rockstar’s upcoming LA Noire.

From the trailer, we can tell the case involves the death of a young, beautiful girl that seems to be initially ruled a suicide, until more details surrounding her life and death emerge. Check it out:

Depth GDC 2011 Video; Does it Sink or Swim?

Depth is an interesting indie title that is described as an aquatic game of cat and mouse. The multiplayer game pits a team of divers against a team of sharks. Divers are tasked with collecting treasure, while sharks . . . well . . . sharks eat the divers. What else did you expect them to do?

Apparently, the sharks will be great at sensing motion/blood, but will have a harder time detecting motionless prey. This would seem to put the emphasis on stealth. From the website, I can see that each side has three ‘classes’ available to play.

When I first read about the game, it seemed pretty exciting. As I type it, it all sounds pretty weird. That might be (likely is) my fault. I think the premise is unique and intriguing, and if the under-water environment is done well, that could certainly make for a very suspenseful atmosphere. But after watching the GDC trailer, I have some concerns. For starters, the sharks seem to zip around like fighter jets.

Let me digress a second and mention that I have an unnatural fear of sharks (particularly for a guy who lives in central Ohio.) I wouldn’t call it a full-blown phobia, but they are certainly one of those things that sets me on edge. But what I find scary about a shark (or worse, sharks) is how the glide so silently and dominantly through the water. Slowly. Powerfully. Like they don’t give a chum who’s around. I mean, it’s a shark. It can take it’s time if it damn-well pleases.

Zipping around like they seem to be doing in the trailer makes it feel more like a cheesy ‘SyFy’ movie. At least, that’s how it came across to me. And when the divers were shown in the jaws of, well, Jaws . . .  it again seemed to miss the whole dynamic of how a shark attacks and kills it’s prey.

Regardless, I’ll be keeping an eye on this game as it progresses through development. And I’m extremely happy to see a new multiplayer experience that doesn’t involve assault rifles and camouflage.

And without further delay, here’s the video. Enjoy:

Video: Move’s Sharp Shooter Peripheral In Action

Playstation.blog has posted a video showing off the Move’s Sharp Shooter Peripheral. The video covers how the control set-up will work with Killzone 3, and then shows the rig in action playing Socom 4.

If I already had a Move (I don’t even have a PS3 right now) I’d probably have this on my wish-list. One of the very few things I enjoyed about first-person-shooters on the Wii was the pointer-aiming. Having a set up like the Sharp Shooter on Move could only refine that experience.

But I don’t plan on dropping money for a PS3, then Move, then the SS, then Killzone 3 or Socom. I do, however, accept donations. Just say’n.

The post and the video can be found on the Playstation.blog here.
